Starting to Run

One of the most exciting things that has transpired is I am now completely committed to running.  In early April, I entered the lottery for the Nike Women's 1/2 Marathon in San Francisco and my name was drawn last week.  They have collected $130 of mine so I have no other choice than to be committed unless I want to forfeit the money.  In addition to the money, this is a highly sought after race and there are many many unhappy women out there who would pay three times that much to run in this race; so I owe it to them to follow through.

As thrilled as I am to participate, I am bummed that my sister's and friend's names weren't drawn.  This means I'm going solo and it's 100% up to me to keep on schedule, train right and prepare for the race which is October 16th.  I am cooking up a training plan with the help and feedback from friends and family and will post a timeline/schedule and encourage feedback and/or hassel.

Being a borderline GenY'er I can't have a schedule without the help and management from my handy dandy iPhone.  So I've purchased a couple apps including "Couch to 5k" and the trusted Nike+ GPS.  Those teamed with some dedication and a new friend I've made down the street that helps get me up in the AM to walk and jog I think I'm on the right path.

I am going to focus on not making my blog about running; because really, I'm much more passionate about cooking, canning, decorating, organizing and planning.  I'm sure that passion will show through in my writing.

I am thrilled to be making progress in both my life and back on the blog.
